THIS is a good thing - probably the first time in 50 years I did not know the day/time of the Memorial celebration of Jehovah's Witnesses. I did know that today is Good Friday and that Easter is Sunday. Although those holidays mean nothing to me either - I was thinking of having a little egg hunt here.
It is great to really be an X-xjw. Perhaps even better to be free of all foolish religion.

Hi Grace
As you know I don't believe in your invisible friends in high places - but if he wants to stop by sometime and show himself openly I would love to talk to him.
Hope all is well for you.

Are you an athiest and why?
by LouBelle ini'm interested in finding out people's reasons as to why they are athiest.. i have simply through life experience, my research into religions over the years come to that conclusion.
never thought i would come to a day that i did not believe in a god.
believing in a god is like believing in super man, it would be great if he existed but well it's just a fairy tale.

That about sums it up for me.
BTW - Atheism does not result in unhappiness that many like to attribute to the rational. I have not ever been happier in my life since I figured out that sky-daddy either does not exist, or is an evil uncaring bastard.

How would atheists respond to this?
by Knowsnothing inhttp://www.everystudent.com/wires/godreal.html.
british philosopher, dr. antony flew, has been a leading spokesperson for atheism, actively involved in debate after debate.
however, scientific discoveries within the last 30 years brought him to a conclusion he could not avoid.

If you boil it down - attempts to make scientific awareness into god-magic are still just opinions.
Seems to me those who seek to find 'god' in detail are inverting the pyramid. As we dig deeper into genetics, we find reason to marvel - but no one can conclude without exception that we should marvel at 'god', as opposed to marvelling at the wonder of time and circumstance.
The movement by believers away from pure fundamental acceptance of their holy writ is evidence that science moves our perception toward more correct viewpoints, and that over time those viewpoints will continue to move toward science, not toward religious tales.
If you don't accept the above, take a look at your Christian religions 200 years ago. Many of the 'stories', that today are viewed by those same sects as 'allegory' or 'figurative' or 'metaphor', were viewed as absolute truth and detail. Without the light of science, Christians would still believe the silly tales as absolute.
On the other hand, cite where/when/how Christian dogma/religious writ has acted to correct science? Though perhaps someone could state factual areas within the historical portions of some texts as giving science a 'direction' to investigate and confirm or deny - I know of no example where science has had to admit that 'the holy book' was paramount in explaining a problem and solution.
So, put your 'faith' in invisible people in invisible places doing their work invisibly if you like. Me? I would rather watch and learn from science, though I admit that likely we are just in the infant stages of that discipline as a species.

An Old Argument.... does it hold water?
by AK - Jeff inestimates range from 4 million to 15 million children die from starvation each year on this planet.
that's between 500 and 1700 children a day, depending on what numbers you accept.
still, no matter which numbers you use, doesn't this make you arrive at one of the following conclusions?.

AK - Jeff
I have seen no argument to refute the premise of this thread.
Evil exists. A loving, omnipotent, omniscient being would not allow it.
Not to say that a powerful being doesn't exist - although I personally see no evidence of that - but if he does, sorry Tammy, he is much more likely to resemble your image of Satan, than he does your image of 'GOD'.
He sits up there just watching suffering and evil for tens of thousands of years, taking no action to stop or correct it. He is as far removed from what your mythical Jesus hero describes as is possible. [Or at least what you interpret your mythical Jesus hero to have said.]
But then what else should be expected from this Biblical god? He killed millions, ordered his people to pillage and rape, constantly beat his chest as 'Lord' and killed anyone who dared cross him.
Again - Satan seems like a much nicer guy, and if you want to use your book to determine 'who' to worship, you might consider changing sides.

Your obfuscation is fooling nobody but yourself.
True that, Cofty.
But an even larger wonder is WHY continue to fool yourself when the god you worship is, aside all other things, impossible to prove? Why slant all opinion on the matter toward believing that God is benevolent, when all the evidence is that, if he exists, he is more likely a sadistic, malevolent, god? Even your Holy Books paint him such. There are few gods invented in the minds of men as horrible in nature, loving of violence, jealous, judgmental, filled with rage, as murderous, as your OT Judeo God, the one I assume you prefer to worship, Tec.
Just sayin'.

Reduced Magazines Etc: Scenario Thinking
by metatron inforgive me for creating this thread but i believe there are aspects of watchtower downsizing that have not been fully understood or 'fleshed out'.. for example: you have a publishing company whose main source of revenues are book and magazine production and sales.
their international presence is supported by the profits they make on these.
so far, so good.... overtime, their products fail to sell.

They appear to be in trouble. Time will tell.

Cofty has hit the nail the locks the coffin for the free will argument.
So take away the human choices, just look at the evil that exists without it. Substitute tsumani, black plague, aids, cancer, death by viper, infant mortality, spontaneous abortion, epilepsy, massive earthquakes, etc, for 'evil' in the premise-statement.
Tec - the statement doesn't demand that there is no god. Look at it carefully. It just demands that " There is no being that is all-knowing, all-powerful, and perfectly loving."
So you can have your god - but he is, if he is, a heartless bastard unworthy of praise and worship at the least, and worthy of hatred at the best. If he/she, like you, wishes to excuse himself of responsibility for evil on the basis of 'free will' arguments - well then he is disgusting, but certainly not all knowing, powerful, and perfectly loving. It would seem to me that he makes the Devil look like a nice fellow.

The elders want to see me also
by MsGrowingGirl20 ini mentioned a few times, that in terms of making my time for the past few months have been really difficult.simply because i cant teach something i don't fully believe...so my service has gone down,i used to comment a lot--haven't done that in a while----meeting attendance like normal but now i don't stay back after...or come early...or help with cleaning..... .
so some weeks ago the cobo asked me a completely irrelevant and in no way helpful question---"you did't think that i notice how upset you look these days----that's not a fruitage of god's spirit!".
yeah so today he saw me and asked me a series of question....all which i gave really short answers to...long story short--he says that he would like for me to meet wih the rest of the elders after memorial........ .

Just put them off.
1- It is your life. Don't let them intimidate you into meeting with them if you do not desire to, and they have no 'grounds' for which to take action based on other's reports. Just pass.
2- Remember that these things can go 'very wrong', if and especially if they have a hidden agenda [and they always have a hidden agenda.]
You need time to sort it out. Don't tell them you are sorting anything though. Just tell them you are down and politely insist that you have no reason to meet with them at this time, but thank you.
